This is the fourth one I have purchased for myself and gifted 2 to my son. The first 2 someone else set up for me as I am not computer savvy and know nothing about electronics. The last 2 I had ordered, I received e-mails from Amazon telling me how to set them up before they were even shipped so all I had to do was plug them in. No more forgetting grocery items, just tell Alexa and she will add items so you don't worry about forgetting to. My shopping lists are broken down by catagory making it easier at the store. I love that I can tell Alexa to turn on certain lights as I am retired and use no more electricity than necessary. There are so many helpful features, I am so glad someone convinced me that I should get one.

Our first step into Alexa world!We have been very hesitant about getting anything voice activated. Not because we are paranoid about being listened to. But because we didn’t think we needed it. Also, we thought there was a monthly charge. We are remodeling an old vet clinic into a home. Now we have need of a way to turn on lights from as many as 4 different doorways. After searching and searching for options, I started looking at voice activated lighting. First, there is no monthly charge! Second, I thought we would need a bunch of equipment. Wrong there too! We bought one Echo Dot to try it out. The speaker is great for music and podcasts. But best of all, I can use it to control my kitchen ceiling fan/light from any that my Dot can hear me! Smart fixtures are not much more expensive than non smart fixtures, sometimes even cheaper. I love Alexa so much that I am buying more devices for other rooms and I am currently choosing more smart ceiling fans. And, I plan on setting up lights for my parents’ home with voice control for their safety.
